Southern Washington Volcanos and Lookouts Watch and HighRock

panoramic video -- Watch and HigRock also have very similar
perspectives to each other. We were very close to half way
between Rainier and St Helens almost on a straight line.
St Helens was very difficult to capture on this trip as it was in
clouds most of the time.

On Jun 29, we made the long arduous journey to Watch Mtn. We pushed, pedaled and finally coasted on mountain bikes for more than 20 miles to get to this former lookout, now radio facility on private forest land. From here, Adams was still the star of the show.

Then on Jun 30th we made the relatively short hike up to the visually stunning High Rock. This lookout is pictured at the top of the page. The picture was taken hand held at extreme telephoto zoom with image stabilization. This combination of factors tends to result in a picture that looks a bit like an impressionists painting.

From Watch I got another panorama video starting at Mt Rainier, sweeping past Mt Adams and ending at an only partially visible Mt St Helens.

Watch Lookout -- The route is 26 miles of private forest land access
roads. We did all but the last few miles on mountain bikes.

Views from Watch

Like the view from all of the lookouts on this trip, Adams was the star of the show.
Mt Rainer was only partially visible.

Kari on the approach to HighRock
As much of Rainier as could be seen from HighRock on the day we visited.
